I completely forgot to post about this, since I have a different definition than the litmus tests and over the years, main female characters always get this rap and so do any female characters, dependent on the fandom.

Even in mythology, characters seemed larger than life, invincible and god knows what, with little to no characterization,etc... You can't automatically assume that any/all original characters are a Mary Sue. A female lead is not a Mary Sue, female characters are not Mary Sues and people who make your favorite character angry are not a Mary Sue. For instance, I've always hated Sylar on Heroes and stopped watching because not only did he kill Elle and rip off a famous X-Men storyline, he's the penultimate Gary Stu, imho.

To me, a Mary Sue is a blatant self-insertion of yourself into the character, plain and simple. Unless you're the creator of the show,movie,etc..., you can't have an avatar. Yes, there are forms of Sue like Emo!Sue, Fixer!Sue and whatnot, but it isn't universal for every fandom. Some shows love to fuck their characters up the ass, kill one off and suddenly introduce a new one to make up for a character everyone loves being killed off. One of my favorite shows did that recently, but I don't think it makes the new guy a Gary Stu. He's just a new member of the gang, is all.

If you think someone's character is a Mary Sue say so, just give specific reasons why and whatnot, don't just say it's because they're a girl on the show or an original character. Like I said, some shows seriously do have characters that are always fucking emo or are meddlers. On some shows they get killed in a horrible, fiery explosion and in the other ones, they wind up just being declared mentally ill the way they should have earlier so no one could say they were being emo.

Also, a threat to your ship like Addison during the early days of Grey's Anatomy does not automatically make that character a Mary Sue, nor does it make a character like McSteamy a Gary Stu.

Journals and Muses

This community isn't just for writing journals, it's for muse journals and rp journals, even if role-playing will be in a separate journal. The following rules allow for them, aside from what's been covered so far:

Fandom muses-I'm using the same rule for RPG. If you think they're being OOC or lack knowledge/experience of the character, don't be mean. Tell them nicely, because odds are, they've never done the character before, but want to try/they're stuck in their head. If they're using a crappy/inaccurate source for details they don't know, tell them. If there's details from the source material(book, cartoon,etc...) they need to know, just tell them.

If they're the ones being rude? Tell me or any other mods and I/we will deal with them. You offered a suggestion and they chose to get hostile and defensive. I don't want drama, so if things are getting tense, I'd prefer it get solved without anyone getting kicked out or leave feeling bitter.

OC Muses-This is a little different. You can't really cc the same way you would in fan fiction since it's someone else's world. However, they're welcome to share their world with is and invite us in. In that case, if you think their character is a little cliche and you want to know what makes them different or offer a suggestion, it's fine. If you're editing someone's story and notice a muse that isn't the main character dominating the story, story lines or scenes, let them know. If they have pairings, friendships and whatnot that you don't think are working or even necessary, again...say so and explain why. This last part might just be your opinion, but share it, regardless. If the character isn't cliche but there's just something about them you have to know or just don't like, you can tell them.

The same rule applies to their concept/canon/verse-You may not even be familiar with some of the stuff and have a right to ask wtf they're talking about. If you think before anyone even wants to hear about it they should have some sort of prologue/explanation post, say so.

OC muses? Don't feel afraid to try and interact with fandom muses. They may bite, they may not-I have no idea about future mods, but I'm always willing to try and help, interact and participate with people. :)

Role-playing journals: Ok, this is a bit political. I know there's a division between fan fiction and writers in general and role-players and then there are people who do both and got good at writing because of role-playing. If you're have rp journals, my advice is to post it in the rp community. One of the posts will be a nexxus post, so everyone can talk to everyone and anyone. If it's an MYOC(Make Your Own Character) journal, let people know that ahead of time, as well as the genre/type of game.

Role-playing is a separate post in and of itself, which I'll get into much later, since the editing exchange and types of fiction are a a little more important.

You can put any meme, I really don't care. Just...don't spam the community with them, okay? We have too many different subjects we allow and if memes get out of hand, I'll have to make a separate journal like the role-playing one's and don't want to have to do that.

Also? The NSFW rule stands and it's just common sense, as well as violating rules and polices of DW.

Don't most a meme that's been done to death. You can link your answers to a public entry on your journal if you'd like or you can post the answers. In fact, that might be preferable to avoid spamming. You guys can vote on it and let me know what you think.

Since this is such a huge community if it works, I feel the need to post this.

Fanfiction-I'll be dealing with anything involving role-playing and original things, unless someone wants to help me out. However, I need someone who isn't a fucking canon nazi to police people from being assholes when they comment, critique or beta people's stuff. I once managed to do it with a Lost/General Hospital crossover without making the person cry and I'd like to think other people can, too. A friend recently offered me a suggestion I passed on mainly because the urge to re-write the fic passed and I got sucked into my own work, but it didn't piss me off or make me upset, nor was she anything other than be polite.
NaNoWriMo-All I need from this person is to just archive, make lists of people offering to be part of an editing exchange and make sure people are following posting rules. Let's face it-Most people I know quit, ran out of steam, got too nervous to try or if they're me, they finished, but realized they either needed a massive dose or editing, things are disorganized as fuck or they used an idea different from the one they planned ahead of time and want to try said idea.
Memes-Just make sure they keep it NSFW. I don't give two shits about the rest.
Role-playing: If anyone else wants to help or just remind me and everyone else that there are n00bs and people who aren't 133t and transitioning/curious, let me know.
Muses-I need someone to help me police the muses in the sense that every few months, if they don't post, email or I'm them. If people are flaming them or making them upset, they'll contact us.
Original stuff-I'm going to be handling this, but other people write original fiction as well, so if someone could help me handle that, it would ease my burden, as I'll be dealing with fandom OC's in rpg's, muse journals and fan fiction.
Prompts-This one is fairly easy, since it involves polls, taking in people's suggestions and talking to me and anyone else. I have a zillion books on writing, so I have no issue posting prompts, I just need someone to archive and manage people's suggestions. Obviously, if it's one I posted, I will manage it.
